CURIOUS PROBLEMS.
The French schoolboys test new-comers with the following
problem:—A litter of wolf-cubs is twelve a year, in which time a
sheep gives birth to but oue lamb. Thirty-five million French eat lamb
and mutton every day, but not one eats wolf, and the proverb says "wolf
does not eat wolf" likewise. Everywhere lambs and sheep are seen in the
butchers', but a dead wolf is as rare as a deceased donkey. Besides,
wolves eat sheep and sheep do not feed on wolves. Where do the wolves
go to ?
